This, little bit outdated, article provides an overall landscape about Fed’s monetary policy mechanics, and some of important times series data: Fed’s asset size and types of holdings, the size of liabilities and its components, the average maturity of Fed’s Treasury holdings. Fed’s assets size hit $4.5 trillion and started shrinking in 2017. Total liabilities of Fed also began to decrease from the end of 2017 after hitting more than $4 trillion. Now faced with the market volatility, the Fed decided to suspend the bond portfolio runoff at least for now.
